October Newsletter - and Kaldoras is OUT NOW!
Happy October, everyone! Or… since I’m sending this on October 31st, it may be November before some of you read it, so I guess that means “Happy November” instead? Take your pick!
First up for this month’s newsletter, and most exciting of all:
That’s right! The 4-years-later epilogue to The Medoran Chronicles is finally here and I can’t WAIT for you to venture back into this magical world one final time!
While today is the official release date, please keep in mind that there may be delivery delays for your local bookstore, so best call them first to double check that it’s in stock. But very soon it should be available as a paperback in bookstores across Australia and NZ, and for readers in other countries, it’ll be available globally as an ebook (it should be uploaded now, or else very close) and also as audiobook globally as well (with a slight delay of Nov 14th for the Audible release).
Look at all these beauties together! Ahh, they’re so pretty!!!!
As a newsletter exclusive, here’s a never-before-seen excerpt from the first page of Aven’s story in Kaldoras. I loved writing from his POV sooooo much, though I’m not entirely sure what that says about me, given who he is, haha.
Please note that this excerpt contains ‼️SPOILERS‼️ for books 1-6 in The Medoran Chronicles:
To celebrate this release, I’m heading to Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane for events (yay!) starting THIS WEEK with the official launch in Sydney this coming Thursday night (2nd November). It’s going to be an amaaaaazing evening, with an in-conversation followed by an audience Q&A, signing and photos. There are just a handful of tickets left, which you can grab by clicking here.
Please note: There will be a signing limit of 2 books per person on the night. There are also 300+ people attending (eeek!), so maybe bring/wear a mask if that makes you more comfortable in a crowd, especially given, you know — *gestures at the world* — everything. (And of course, please stay home if you’re sick!)
As for Brisbane and Adelaide, I’ll be signing all weekend (both weekends) at Supanova Comic-Con (and speaking on a panel each day as well), and you can find the details and grab your tickets by clicking here.
For my specific Supanova schedule, including panel times (and the solo panel I’m doing for the Kaldoras launch (including a full Medoran Chronicles Q&A) in Brisbane), check out the details below:
HARRY HARTOG SIGNED BOOKS:
For anyone who took advantage of the signed books offer a few months ago through Harry Hartog Bookseller, I’m happy to report that those books are all signed and will be on their way to you very soon! It was a mammoth day for me with over 1200+ books to sign and personalise (I think it was nearly 7 hours straight of signing, ooof!), but I’m so honoured by how many of you wanted these special copies! Especially for people outside of Australia — I’m so glad to finally have had a way to get signed books into your hands, and I hope you love them!
Here’s a clip I took on the day (and that’s not even all the books!!!!):
SIGNED BOOKPLATES:
If you missed out on the above offer, QBD Books still has signed bookplates available for orders of Kaldoras purchased through their online store, and you can grab yours by clicking here. (100 of them have the tagline quote for this book — “Forever and always” — included as well as my signature!)
THE MEDORAN CHRONICLES ARTWORK:
Now that Kaldoras is out in the world, I’ll be able to start sharing the 5 scenes I commissioned from Ismael González over the coming weeks (I love them SO MUCH), so keep an eye on my social media and my next newsletter for those reveals. But something else I shared a few days ago is this absolutely gorgeous artwork by Dominique Wesson from Vardaesia. I won’t mention these characters by name here juuuuuuust to keep this from being too spoilery for anyone who hasn’t read this series yet, but for anyone who has read up to this part (Chapter 17), I think you can agree that this is STUNNING!!!! (And yes, it will be available as an art print in my online store next time it opens — as will all the Kaldoras scenes!)
ONLINE STORE:
Speaking of my online store, I'm hoping to open it once more this year for Christmas orders (to Australian addresses only, sorry! This is due to insurance issues that I’m hoping to sort out one day). I can’t 100% commit to this opening just yet since I don’t finish up with my Kaldoras tour events until mid-November, and it just depends on if I’m on a roll with my drafting deadline at that point or if I can carve out time to open the store, so I’ll keep you updated. But if I do manage it, I’ll send out an email blast to let you know the dates (it’ll likely just be 1-2 days towards the end of November so things can arrive in time to be Christmas pressies), and I’ll also share what’s available. (The main things will be all the new Kaldoras artwork, plus a few other new bits and pieces that I’ll be sharing over socials in the coming weeks.)
Let me know — do you want me to try and open the store in time for Christmas orders, or are you okay to wait until the New Year? Vote below!
COVER REVEAL:
The fourth book in The Medoran Chronicles will be releasing soon in Türkiye and I was able to share the cover over social media last week! Here it is again for anyone who missed it:
And here it is with the first three books in the series, all of which are available now:
HOW GORGEOUS ARE THEY!?!?! Ahhh, I love them so much, and I can’t wait for this fourth book to be released — coming soon!
WHAT I’M WRITING:
I’ve started working on (and in) a brand new fantasy world and I absolutely LOVE being there! (The fantasy genre is definitely my happy place!) The book I’m currently drafting is part of a much larger project that is the most ambitious undertaking I’ve ever attempted (*breaks out in hives*), but I’m so unbelievably excited (and nervous) to see where it goes. (Like, truly, you have no idea how excited I am — more than anything else I’ve ever worked on before, so that is saying A LOT.) I doubt I’ll be able to offer many updates along the way, at least not in any way that isn’t vague and super secretive, but for now, I’ll give you this teeny tiny snippet with zero context. (#You’reWelcome)
WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:
Since I’ve been focusing more on drafting/brainstorming this month (on top of all the social media and other admin/promo requirements that come with releasing a new book), I haven’t had much spare time to read (so sad!), but I did manage to sneak in a re-read of Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros in anticipation of the sequel releasing in a couple of weeks. It was so interesting to re-read it given that my first experience was with an e-ARC to blurb it about 6 months before it came out, which was waaaaaay before any of the hype. Back then, I read it in a night (legit finished at about 3am since I couldn’t put it down), and I just knew it was going to be big deal once it came out, so it’s really incredible to see how far it’s come now and just how massive the fanbase is! (It’s also fascinating from an industry perspective — a true viral wonder!) I can’t wait to see what happens in book 2!
On the movies/TV front, I’ve been careful to avoid anything that might suck me in and leave me desperate to know what happens next, so instead I’ve just been re-watching something I’ve seen before. In this case, I’ve returned to an old fave: The Vampire Diaries. (I’m unashamedly Team Damon despite him being so insanely problematic — but then again, they’re all problematic, in numerous ways!!!)
That’s all for this month! I’ll look forward to seeing whoever comes to my events over the next couple of weeks, and for everyone else who is diving straight into reading Kaldoras, I hope you enjoy!!
